New Europe College-Institute for Advanced Study in Bucharest gives its strongest support to the Central European University Budapest
We at the New Europe College have been following with increasing concern the initiatives of the Hungarian government which put under threat the existence
of an institution we came to consider a model of higher education and research in the area. Besides longstanding close relations with Collegium Budapest and
its successor, the Center for Advanced Study at the CEU, we had here over the years many scholars teaching at the CEU as guest professors. We also have been
hosting here a large number of graduates of the CEU as Fellows, and had as many occasions to appreciate the quality of their training in disciplines ranging
from sociology and anthropology to medieval studies, modern and contemporary history, political science etc. The fact that such an outstanding institution is
running the risk of disappearing from the map of the Central and East-European higher education and research is truly distressful.
We join the staff, students and other supporters of the CEU in protesting against the measures that might lead to this and in assuring them of our solidarity.
