New Europe College is located in a traditional residential district of Bucharest, typical for its late 19th and early 20th century architecture, not far from the center of the city and from the University of Bucharest. The house now occupied by the College was built in 1910; it was thoroughly restored and remodeled a few years ago, to suit the needs of the College. The house includes a multipurpose conference hall sitting up to a hundred people, with sound and video facilities; there are two seminar rooms, a library and a reading room.
Office space: six offices for the staff, and three offices for the use of the fellows, with two or three working desks per office.
Accommodation spaces: 5 rooms and one two-room apartment, arranged so as to be used both as living and working quarters, with individual bathrooms. The apartment has a kitchen corner. People living in the other rooms have access to kitchen facilities.
Library services: NEC has on its premises a small, but carefully conceived library, containing reference works as well as up-to-date literature in the major fields of interest to its fellows. The titles relevant for the theme of this project are well represented in it. Besides a number of subscriptions to journals, NEC also offers access to a large on-line data-base of academic journals, through its subscription to EBSCO. Fellows can work in the library, or borrow books and periodicals for definite periods of time. The librarians can also borrow on their behalf literature from other libraries in Bucharest, and/or facilitate the fellows’ access to these libraries.
Computer facilities: The entire NEC network consists of 35 PCs, 3 servers, 2 Internet connections of 64kbit each (2 ISPs), plus printers, scanner, etc. Of the 35 PCs, 26 computers are for public access (10 in the library, 10 in public offices, 6 in the fellows’ rooms), the rest being used by the staff. Other equipment: 3 printers, 1 scanner.
Right to use for fellows: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
- the fellows have personal accounts
- all persons using the facilities have storage space and access to the Internet
Other facilities include: copiers, video projector, video player, DVD-player, slides projector, overhead projector, sound and recording facilities. |
